Video Support in Aqua!

Yep, you read that right… Aqua now offers full support for videos!

The latest improvements in Aqua were developed to help schools assess specific outcomes that rely on videos to show the student’s work, such as Oral Communication. These new features can also be used to assess recordings of student performances and presentations.

We’ve simplified the video upload process and improved the quality of videos that can be used by increasing the size allowance for uploaded files.

With today’s Aqua release, students will see a new option to add comments to videos they submit through the Learning Management System (LMS).

But the enhancements don’t stop there.

Aqua now gives you the option to decide if you want to do anonymous scoring after you’ve published the project. You’ll also find we’ve added some extra details to the Scoring Activity report to instantly show you where each submission came from without having to refer to other reports.

 

Video Scoring

The latest version of Aqua allows evaluators to upload videos up to 500 MB in size, which now play directly within the Aqua platform.

Video files can be uploaded just like any other artifact, from:

  • Manage Submissions (by faculty or assessment coordinators)
  • The LMS (by students)
  • Score Student Work (by evaluators for assignments marked “Evidence Not Required”)

Uploaded videos are initially queued for processing to enable seamless streaming in the Aqua player. Once processed, videos can then be played from Manage Submissions, Score Student Work, or Browse Scored Submissions. Videos that have been uploaded but not yet processed will be available to download.

Student Comments

Students submitting videos through the LMS can now add comments to accompany their work—allowing them to provide explanation and valuable context to supplement their uploaded files. To help keep comments concise and targeted, they are limited to 1000 characters of plain text and must accompany a video file.

Scoring Rules Improvements

Not ready to tell Aqua if the project will have anonymous scoring when the draft project is created?  With today’s release, Assessment Coordinators can now edit the anonymous scoring rule on published projects that have not yet been opened for scoring in Aqua.

The Score Student Work rule that anonymizes student identities, assignment names, and course titles gives you new options that can be changed in published projects that have not yet been opened for scoring.

The latest Aqua release also lets you decide whether to allow evaluators to mark an individual criterion as N/A (not applicable) right from the draft project.

Scoring Activity Report

The Scoring Activity report in Aqua shows all scores given for each criterion, as well as the greatest difference between the scores given.

To help you easily drill into where the submission and score came from, we’ve added the following fields to the Scoring Activity report now available in the latest Aqua release:

  • Student ID
  • Student Name
  • Course Code
  • Course Name
  • Section ID
  • Section Name
  • Term Name
