Moving from Paper to an Electronic System: How Texas Wesleyan University Streamlined Assessment and SACS-COC Reaffirmation

Texas Wesleyan University is dedicated to effectively managing student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness. In 2010, Texas Wesleyan University moved away from paper-based assessment and began managing its assessment processes and SACS-COC reaffirmation activities through a centralized digital system. In this webinar, Dr. Helena Bussell will share observations and insights about moving from a paper to an electronic assessment system, will explain how a transparent electronic assessment system is helping Texas Wesleyan increase faculty and staff engagement in assessment campus-wide, and will discuss the impact of the new assessment system on SACS-COC reaffirmation in 2013.


Helena Bussell, Ph.D. has served as Associate Provost at Texas Wesleyan since 2003. Her primary roles include coordinating University assessment and unit planning, serving as accreditation liaison for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and supervising University academic student support services, including an academic success center, new student programs, developmental programs, freshman success courses, academic advising, career services, student records, and international programs. Dr. Bussell holds an M.B.A. from Georgia College and State University and a doctorate in history from the University of Texas – Arlington.


Tom Milholland, Ph.D. has been at Abilene Christian University since 1979. He is Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy and serves as Assistant Provost for Institutional Effectiveness. He is also the SACS Accreditation Liaison and has served on SACS-COC on-site and off-site review teams.
