SHEEO, AAC&U, and Taskstream Conclude Webinar Series Highlighting Emerging Practices and Key Learnings from Pilot Year of Multi-State Assessment Initiative

The last webinar, today at 2:00pm EDT, will provide an update on the MSC/VALUE Initiative and discuss areas for future consideration and growth

NEW YORK
– June 29, 2016 — Starting today at 2:00pm EDT, the State Higher Education Executive Officers association (SHEEO), the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), and Taskstream are collaboratively hosting the final webinar in a series of six events which has highlighted emerging practices and key learnings from the Multi-State Collaborative to Advance Learning Outcomes Assessment (MSC) and VALUE Initiative.

Today’s webinar, “A Look Ahead for the Multi-State Collaborative to Advance Learning Outcomes Assessment/VALUE Initiative,” will feature Julie Carnahan, Vice President at SHEEO and Project Director for the MSC, Terrel Rhodes, Vice President at AAC&U and Executive Director of VALUE, and Jeff Reid, Vice President of Product Management at Taskstream.  The three will provide an update on the MSC/VALUE Initiative and discuss progress made during the first two years of the project.  The presenters will also highlight some of their biggest learnings thus far and discuss areas for future consideration and growth within the project.

The MSC/VALUE Initiative has made significant strides advancing a model to scale the assessment of common student learning outcomes across institution and state lines based on authentic student work, representing a paradigm shift in cross-institution learning assessment.  The MSC webinar series was developed to create awareness and share lessons learned from the project with both participating campuses and those not in the project.

“We have been able to collect data on learning outcomes that has never been done in such a systemic way without relying on standardized tests,” said Carnahan.  “It is important to us that this work doesn’t happen in a vacuum – it’s meant to be shared and discussed so that we can all improve what we’re doing in order to better serve our students and institutions.”

Since the first webinar kicked off in March, individuals from more than 350 institutions spanning the United States and beyond have tuned in to view the webinars in this series.  The series has engaged nearly 1,000 individuals from institutions of all types: small, private liberal arts schools to large, public state universities, and everything in between.  The webinars have featured 14 different speakers – from practitioners in the field to state education commissioners and the President of SHEEO.

“We have heard a lot of positive stories from the institutions involved in the MSC and are particularly encouraged by how institutions are engaging faculty and looking at data across their communities to benefit their students,” said Rhodes.  “It’s exciting that people beyond our participating institutions/states are paying attention to what we have learned so far.”
