Across the country, General Education programs are challenged to meet increasingly stringent standards of accountability. In this webcast, two institutions share how they transformed their General Education assessment from paper-based processes, including the challenges they faced, lessons learned, and plans for the future.
Mills College and LSU Baton Rouge are located in different regions, accountable to different accrediting bodies, and very different in size. Yet each was driven by the demands of accreditation to move Gen Ed assessment away from cumbersome paper-based reporting. Each saw the benefits of introducing a digital assessment solution and began with a pilot project before implementing the new system across the institution.
Dr. Knudsen describes Mills College’s pilot Gen Ed assessment program, which began with the English department and schools of business and education. Dr. Matthews discusses how LSU Baton Rouge adapted three of the AAC&U VALUE rubrics to assess the learning outcomes of a random sample of graduating seniors.
